What is ExchangeHut?
Welcome to ExchangeHut, the #1 online student to student marketplace! ExchangeHut is THE place for students to find out local information, buy and sell tickets and textbooks, order food and rate local businesses.
Not only can you buy or sell just about anything locally, you can also find out the most popular restaurants, bars and other local businesses as rated by your fellow students.
A great example is textbooks. The bookstore buys textbooks for cheap and many times resells them at a 100% markup. Buy for less, sell for more, get rid of the middleman: It's that simple.
This is not an auction site. We aim to provide local information, message boards and other local features that will make ExchangeHut the best source for anything college!
We invite you to take a look around the site and see just how useful, quick and easy it is. To truly take advantage of ExchangeHut, you become a member today!
ExchangeHut History
ExchangeHut was established in 2003 by a Wisconsin student name Matt Stamerjohn. Mr. Stamerjohn decided that there should be a cheaper alternative than the bookstore. Over Winter Break, Mr. Stamerjohn, created ExchangeHut.
In the summer of 2005, Stamerjohn sold ExchangeHut to two Wisconsin students who continue to run it today.
In the spring of 2006, ExchangeHut placed 4th in the annual Burrill Business Plan Competition through the School of Business at the University of Wisconsin. They received a small grant to help expand the business nationally. Local business leaders and professors were impressed with ExchangeHut and said so:
ExchangeHut's owners have proven that they have the entrepreneurial
spirit that can take their company to the next level. Their plan to expand
ExchangeHut to other universities around the country placed 4th in the Burrill
Business Plan Competition, a prestigious competition held by the University of
Wisconsin-Madison Business School."
-Dean Michael Knetter, School of Business, University of Wisconsin
Madison
"I have worked now for several months with the principals of
ExchangeHut. They have shown me the ability to get things done in an efficient
and effective manner. Their service will certainly assist college students in
many ways. There is no doubt that they should be successful going
forward."
-Attorney, Joseph Boucher, Instructor Wisconsin School of Business and
Neider & Boucher S.C.
As the Director of the Initiative for Studies in Technology
Entrepreneurship, an extension of the UW Business School, I have worked with
the owners of ExchangeHut.com for over 6 months. Through their hard work
and business sense, they have proven that ExchangeHut is a successful business
model which not only generates revenue, but also helps UW students save
money each semester. The owners of ExchangeHut have proven that
ExchangeHut is a reputable business and a valuable part of the UW-Madison
community. ExchangeHut proved its worth to four local
entrepreneurs during the Burrill Business Plan Competition in April 2006
by placing 4th in this prestigious competition held annually by the
UW Business School.
-John Surdyk, Director Institute for Studies in Technology
Entrepreneurship
In the summer of 2006, the owners decided that the rest of the country should have the opportunity to reap the benefits that current Wisconsin students had been enjoying for the last three years and decided to expand ExchangeHut to other college campuses.
In January 2007, ExchangeHut merged with Collegesellers, another popular student website to create the largest student to student community in America.
